Ospreys Tackle – STEM Project
CCYD were fortunate to have a visit from STEM today to introduce the world of Engineering to the Ospreys Tackle group. The focus of the lesson was on how wind turbines are operated and erected. There followed a practical session on building a model turbine, electrically charged enough to power a phone battery.
The pupils were put into teams and the competition of construction began with specific jobs set out in the groups. Pupils had to discuss and design a working model which was then rigorously tested.
The following engagement by all the pupils was very constructive, all groups completed three attempts to build and improve their model, to get the best speed possible. The “Power Rangers” were the most successful with a voltage of 7.8 reached!
Thank you to STEM and Ospreys Tackle Officers for coming to CCYD and providing the session and giving pupils an introduction to this topic. Diolch!
