Learner Wellbeing

The Wellbeing of all of our learners is key to their success at Coleg Cymunedol Y Dderwen.  When learners wellbeing is good or better they are more likely to achieve to their full potential, this is what all staff want for each and every one of our learners.

We expect and encourage every child to attend school regularly and punctually to ensure they take full advantage of every learning opportunity available to them.  High expectations, positive behaviour and a belief that all will achieve in a safe environment free from bullying are our guiding values.

Student support is an area we pride ourselves on and with confidence we can say that all learners have access to a wide range of additional learning opportunities and support when they need it to ensure they become independent learners, and disadvantaging barriers are removed.

Three Green Flags and a Platinum Award is well deserved recognition for the superb work undertaken by the ECO-Schools council.  We are the first of all secondary schools in Bridgend to receive this award.  Our proactive ECO-Schools council, ESDGC days and work to secure the Healthy Schools Award demonstrate our commitment to a sustainable, healthy and environmentally friendly school.

Our ‘pupil voice’ allows all learners the opportunity to have their voice heard and are actively encouraged via School Council, College Council and Leadership / Governor meetings to shape the future of their school.  The maturity of our school learners councillors is demonstrated when they are involved in interviewing and appointing new staff to the school.

A safe and smooth transition for students from primary to secondary is enabled through close working relationships with our cluster primary schools and an effective transition programme.

The key areas under the umbrella of wellbeing are listed below and by following the links at the side of the page you are able to access further details of the fabulous work undertaken by the key staff who lead on each area.
