Letter From The Headteacher

Dear Parent/Carer

What a great fortnight back with Year 7 enjoying the Skills Day on their first day which focussed on Literacy, Numeracy and ICT.

A particularly warm welcome to our Year 7 students who are now part of our school community and welcome back also to our Year 12 students.

The school’s summer exam results at both A level and GCSE reflected the effort and commitment shown by our students, supported by both staff and parents. 81% of our Year 13 students who applied to University secured their first choice. We really are proud of them!

One of the key features of the school’s life is the huge amount of support we receive from you as parents and carers which assists us in creating a truly community focussed school which has a firm foundation built on a positive parent – school relationship. I would be grateful if we could count on your continued support.

I trust that I will have your full support as we establish our high student expectations at the beginning of a new academic year in relation to good behaviour, the use of mobile phones, and uniform. Can you please remind them that mobile phones should be switched off during lesson time, unless otherwise directed by the class teacher for the purpose of learning enhancement or for use at break or lunchtime. All of this encapsulates our school vision of ‘Taking Pride’.

A letter referring to school, rules, routine and uniform was sent out at the end of the last academic year. This can be found on the school website. I would appreciate it if you could discuss the school rules with your child and note the arrangements for reporting student absences. If your child cycles to school, could you ensure that they wear a suitable safety helmet and that they have a lock for their bike to safely store in the bike shed.

I would also kindly ask you to monitor your child’s homework and check/sign their planners.

Reading is such an important life skill and can make all the difference to future success. I would encourage your child to make use of the school library where it is possible to loan books. I hope that you will encourage them to read these at home.

I would also ask that you support your child’s participation in extra-curricular activities. I would encourage you to follow the Twitter accounts of a number of departments in the school as well at the school’s Twitter account and website so that you are kept up to date with what is going on at CCYD.

A key dates information letter has already been sent home with pupils and a copy is on our website. Please note that year 11 have already started their English GCSE Speaking and Listening preparation. They will have English Literature Controlled Assessments and Mathematics Mock examinations in October. Our Year 7 and 11 Information evenings will take place on the 3rd October, where you will be given much more information.

Thanks for your continued support and we look forward to working with you to ensure the best possible outcomes for your child with regards to wellbeing and learning.

Yours faithfully

Mrs T Wellington
