Letter From Mrs Wilson – Learners in Year 11 and 13

Dear parent/carer,

We have received further information from WJEC regarding non examination subjects. This will affect us as the Skills Challenge (that forms part of the Welsh Baccalaureate Qualification) is 100% coursework.

Pupils in year 11 and 13 were in the process of completing the individual project. This one essay is worth 50% of the overall grade achieved. We were working towards a deadline of Friday 4th April to complete this work.

The details of how grades will be awarded has not yet been given to schools, although we have been informed that any teacher judgements provided will need to be evidence based.

When school closures were announced we were at the point of completing these projects and the majority of pupils would have already had feedback from their teachers and amendments to work on. We would therefore expect all pupils to be working on the improvements. This will give teachers the evidence that is required to support the WJEC in awarding grades. We understand that in the last week, many pupils have been working on completing their project, we are thankful for this as it will aid teachers in making accurate judgements when grades are awarded.

Pupils can continue to complete their project and in fact are encouraged to as the skills developed within this piece of work can be transferred to further studies whether that be 6th form, college or university.

If you have any questions regarding this matter please contact me by email.

Kind regards

Rhian Wilson
