Home Learning Update
Dear Parent/Carers
Home learning update: 11th January 2021
As we continue with home learning this week I just wanted to update you on some things. We have received the go ahead for us to start live lessons this week (Starting today 11th Jan) by the Local Authority. Staff are going to be trialing live links to the 6th form classes this week so some lessons will either involve a google MEET live link up with ‘real time’ instruction, others will have a pre recorded video instruction or a set of written instructions with resources etc.
For KS3 and KS4 classes some lessons will also be delivered live through Google MEET but for these lessons for safeguarding reasons we have to include an additional adult in any live links. We are in the process of coordinating this with our support staff so we anticipate over the next few days for this to be well underway. As always your child would need to follow their timetable and go into the lesson Google Classroom right at the start of the lesson and await and follow the instructions. If there is to be a live link up there will be a link to click in the main stream, otherwise there will be a pre recorded video or written instruction for them to follow.
All live lessons have to be recorded following Welsh Government guidance. Below is a set of protocols/instructions for our learners to follow when engaged in ‘Live’ links in lessons. The learners have received this previously in the Autumn term as a print out and it was also discussed in Form time. They would just need reminding of the rules and we would appreciate it if you could ask them to read through it. I have asked the Pastoral Leaders to post this in the year group google classroom for them to view as well.
Thank you for your continued support in helping us with home learning. We completely understand that this can often be overwhelming for parents in trying to keep on top of things. We wish that things could be different and we could be educating all of our children in the school setting, but for now we will do everything we can to support and engage them in their learning whilst at home.
If you can continue to encourage them to start their day at 8.30 and follow their timetable, take regular breaks and simply do their best, then that will support them in maintaining a routine and help them progress.
As ever please contact your child’s pastoral leader if you have any concerns or issues you would like to raise.
Stay safe
