CCYD joined the Festival of learning host event at Bridgend Life centre on Wednesday 26th June as well as the Learner voice forum on Thursday 27th June. The event involved showcasing some of the superb work done this year by our fantastic Eco schools committee led by Ms Fran Watkin, along with the Lead creative schools project led by Mrs Leanne Grabham.
The lead creative school project involved a class of year 9 learners in engaging them in creative maths learning by developing mathematical skills through the medium of textiles and art. The learners enjoyed working with a Lead Practitioner who supported them in developing their creative skills by developing pieces of artwork such as fibonacci spirals from string and wood which helped them understand mathematical principles. Evan Roberts Year 9 and Isla Pinches Year 7 attended the event and discussed their learning experiences with visitors to the stand.
The Eco schools committee have been engaged in a wide range of activities this year from a uniform swap shop to setting up a healthy fruit bar at lunch time. They are have also driven us to have the Platinum Eco award flag with the accolade of being the only secondary school in Bridgend to achieve this!
