End of Term Arrangements
Dear Parents/Carers
RE: End of term arrangements
As we approach the Christmas break after an exciting and busy term, I would like to thank staff, students, parents and governors for their continued support in everything we do. We have an ambitious vision for our school, as we strive to provide the best possible education for everyone at Coleg Cymunedol Y Dderwen.
On Wednesday 19 th December we look forward to welcoming The Bridgend Youth Orchestra into school. The orchestra will be playing Christmas songs in the atrium during form and break time. Staff and pupils are invited to wear a Christmas jumper to school with a small donation of £1 in aid of the orchestra’s chosen charity and our school pupil fund. At lunchtime Christmas dinner will be served costing £2.50. Alternative dinner options will also be available.
The Autumn Term will end for all pupils on Thursday 20 th December at 2:50pm. School trips have been organised for the last day, however, pupils who have not opted to go on a school trip will be expected to attend school in school uniform as normal. If your child is ill please inform the absence line by 9:30am to avoid a home visit.
Friday 21 st December is an INSET day for staff. We have two further INSET days planned for this academic year: Monday 1 st July 2019 and Monday 22 nd July 2019. As you are aware, the school was closed in March 2018 due to adverse weather conditions. We will always try and remain open if possible, but this will be dependent on the availability of staff and whether or not it is safe to do so. We will inform you of any closure by text and updates will be posted on the school and council websites. Please ensure that you provide up to date contact details so that you are able to receive important information.
Most pupils in Year 11 will be taking GCSE English Literature examinations in January 2019, and all have been given timetables for these examinations. You will note that the examinations take place directly after the Christmas holiday. This means that pupils will need to take responsibility for preparing properly during the holiday period and I would encourage parents to ensure they set aside sufficient time for study in the run up to their exams.
Finally, I hope you all enjoy a peaceful Christmas and a very happy New Year. We look forward to seeing all our students return refreshed and ready for a new school term on Monday 7 th January 2019.
Yours sincerely
Mrs Wellington
Headteacher
