Year 7 class Y2 have been looking at environmental issues this term based on the Chief Seattle letter that we study. As part of this we have been learning about palm oil and in particular how bad Nestle are as a company as they only use 25% of sustainable palm oil in their products and buy their palm oil from a company who are responsible for most of the fires in the amazon rainforest.
The learners felt very passionate about the topic so, we wrote letters to Nestle expressing our concerns. The letters the learners wrote were very powerful and really showed how passionate they were about palm oil. Many of their parents in parents evening commented on how much their child had spoken about it at home and how they were no longer allowed to buy Nestle (oops). Anyway, today they have received a reply from Nestle which is shown below.
We are very proud that our pupils feel passionate about environmental issues and continue to debate away from the classroom.
